Have you ever considered supporting a local pantry as part of your corporate social responsibility? Over the past few months, a number of businesses across Greater Manchester have supported the pantries by either donating money to the pantries so they can purchase food items or helping to clean and decorate the pantries.

Businesses who have already supported the pantries include, Thales Group, ENGIE UK, Bamford Doors, Sheridan Lifts, Haven Global Strategies Limited, Dolphin Removals, GoodGym and Every Month Charity.

If this is something you’d like to support, here are a few ideas on how you can help:

  • Monetary donations for YLP (to buy food items or other items for the pantries, e.g. toiletries, volunteer gifts)
  • Food donations for the pantries (purchase goods for the pantries such as snacks, chocolates, tinned goods, crisps as YLP are unable to purchase any items with VAT)
  • Volunteering support (help the pantry team with deep cleans and general pantry volunteering around events such as Christmas, half – terms and Volunteer’s Week where we could give the pantry volunteers a ‘day off’)
  • Toiletry donations (purchase goods for the pantries such as sanitary products, shampoos, nappies, bodywash as these items YLP don’t tend to get)
  • Pantry repairs (provide things such as new flooring, new blinds for some pantries)

ENGIE said: “The last two years have further highlighted the role pantries and food banks play in our local communities. Without the work Your Local Pantry does, too many households in Stockport would struggle to access fresh quality food at a time when prioritising our health and wellbeing is more important than ever. All EQUANS staff volunteer regularly in communities, and we were delighted to help Your Local Pantry in Brinnington in the run up to Christmas, helping them to organise their shop and store cupboard, whilst also providing generous donations from staff across the EQUANS business. It is a vital resource in the local area, and with the support of more companies they can continue to ensure fewer people across Stockport go hungry.”

Roger Phillips, Chair of Foundations Stockport Board, said: “I want to start by thanking all the companies who have supported the pantries over the past few months, your donations and generosity has been amazing. I know everyone who works at the pantries appreciates your support. I would recommend other companies getting involved, your donations and time means that we can continue to support people across Stockport to access affordable food.”
